How is the matching gift donated to the charity you donated?
The company would either send the check to you after verification of your donations on their own, or the charity organization would somehow have to verify the amount to the company before the check is issued to them. Please see the instructions on your company’s website.
I forgot to claim the matching gift from my company for a donation I did earlier in the year, can I claim now?
Yes, absolutely. It is not mandatory to put the matching gift donations request to your company right away. You can do that at any time during the year. Most companies have a cut off month set as “Oct” of that year to avoid the spillover charitable obligation to the next year. So, no matching gift requests could be submitted in Nov, Dec, and Jan (mostly). It is prudent to submit the matching gift request to your company just after the donation to the charity is made since it takes time to process the request.
