From July 24 to 30, 2025, IIT (BHU) Varanasi witnessed the vibrant arrival of its newest undergraduate students through Deeksha Aarambh — the institute’s official seven-day orientation-cum-induction program for the incoming Class of 2025. The week-long event, coordinated by the Dean (Academic Affairs), faculty, student bodies, and the IIT (BHU) Foundation, aimed to ease freshers into the academic, cultural, and emotional fabric of the campus.
The program began with a formal inaugural ceremony at Swatantrata Bhawan, attended by students and their parents. Prof. Amit Patra, Director of IIT (BHU), delivered a heartfelt welcome address emphasizing not just academic excellence, but character, curiosity, and community as the cornerstones of success. Senior faculty and institute officials also spoke, highlighting the opportunities, responsibilities, and support systems awaiting the new entrants.
Over the next seven days, students experienced a dynamic and thoughtfully sequenced journey through various domains of campus life. The mornings largely focused on academic immersion, the afternoons on campus exploration and interactions, and the evenings on connection, culture, and fun.
Some of the key elements of the week included:
- Academic orientation sessions with faculty, where students were introduced to:
- Course structures, elective systems, and grading mechanisms
- Departmental overviews and faculty research interests
- The Central Library, Central Workshop, and lab infrastructure
- Campus resource walkthroughs, including visits and briefings at:
- Computer Centre, Health Centre, and Innovation Hub
- Hostel facilities and mess systems
- The Institute Counselling Services and Wellness Centre
- Student life showcases, facilitated by current students and council members:
- Interactions with the Students’ Gymkhana and its Cultural, Technical, and Sports Councils
- Presentations by SAKHA (Student Wellbeing Cell) on mental health and peer support
- Exploratory sessions with student-run clubs — dance, drama, debating, coding, design, and more
- Skill and value-based workshops, helping freshers navigate college life mindfully:
- Sessions on emotional intelligence, time management, and stress-handling
- Conversations on academic integrity, ethics, and digital responsibility
- Guidance on balancing ambition with well-being
- Evening activities and bonding spaces, which helped transform strangers into friends:
- Cultural evenings with music, open mics, and performances
- Campus treasure hunts and hostel-level mixers
- Informal interactions with seniors and peer mentors
A unique and appreciated element of Deeksha Aarambh was the inclusion of parents in the first day of programming. They were given insight into the academic system, student support frameworks, and life on campus — strengthening their connection with the institute and reinforcing trust as their children begin this transformative journey.
The program concluded with parting messages from faculty and mentors, but it was evident — Deeksha Aarambh was not a conclusion, but a beginning.
This seven-day experience was not just about orientation, it was about initiation into a legacy — of resilience, innovation, and belonging.
The IIT (BHU) Foundation extends its deepest appreciation to everyone who contributed to making it a memorable and meaningful journey — the faculty, administration, student councils, SAKHA team, volunteers, and most of all, the incoming batch who embraced every session with openness and curiosity.
To the Class of 2025, welcome to a campus where your dreams will be challenged, your ideas celebrated, and your journey supported at every turn. IIT (BHU) is now your home — and your story here is just beginning.
