Introduction

In light of the department’s upcoming academic initiatives, including the proposal for introducing the new Integrated M.Sc. & Ph.D. Program and the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) in 2025, we anticipate a significant increase in the number of students and faculty members. These developments require infrastructure upgradation to enhance the quality of teaching and research.
Currently, our department has only two classrooms, each of capacity 50, for conducting the lectures of five batches of our existing 5-year IDD students. The department has office spaces for only 25 faculty members. Hence, the department has the following challenges that need immediate attention:
- To manage the classes for five batches in just two classrooms with rudimentary facilities
- Insufficient classrooms with inadequate capacity for seating
- To manage classrooms for the proposed new Integrated M.Sc. & Ph.D. program
- Inadequate office chambers for faculties
Therefore, in order to overcome the above challenges, the Faculty Meeting of the department unanimously decided to request for an expansion of the existing L2 building. We therefore propose the following:
- Development of one new classrooms/conference room with a capacity of 150 students to accommodate the increased number of students
- Construction of additional 15 faculty office chambers on the top floor of the L2 building.
Estimated Timeline for the Project
1 Year
Expected Impact
The department is having acute shortages of classroom and faculty office spaces. This expansion and construction of new classroom and office chambers are therefore of urgent need of the department. This is also aligning with the institute's long-term vision and achieving the goals outlined in NEP 2025.
