Introduction

Dielectric response measurement and analysis is important for reliable performance of power equipment like transformer, power cable, switch gear etc. Dielectric response measurement can predict insulation failure thereby enhancing reliability of electric power system. Dielectric response measurement of power device requires high-cost specialized equipment. The aim of the project is to develop a dielectric spectroscopy laboratory, where dielectric response measurement of costly power equipment will be done. Hence, the laboratory will offer testing and consultancy services to industry, which can bridge the gap between academia and industry. Besides consultancy work, the laboratory will focus on the electrical insulation design, dielectric characterization of electrical insulating material. The laboratory facility will support research works regarding the UG, PG, and PHD thesis projects. The laboratory facility will also support research scholars from other department to carry out testing and measurement. The lab’s development focus on advanced equipment and infrastructure to measure dielectric response. To ensure the success of this initiative, we will offer the naming rights, which will give our alumni a chance to leave a lasting legacy in institutional growth. We are inviting our alumni to support the development of the laboratory to serve both industry and academia.
Estimated Timeline for the Project
- 2 Years: 1-6 Months Build necessary infrastructure of the laboratory with the help of institute works department,
- 4-10 Months: Procurement of equipment to measure dielectric response (Insulation diagnostic Analysers and Electrometer),
- 10-12 Months: Installation of specialized equipment,
- 12-24 Months: Begin regular operation including hands on training, research work, industrial collaboration and testing of dielectric materials
Expected Impact
- The laboratory will provide a cutting-edge research facility in the area of advanced dielectric material, insulation design.
- The laboratory will provide a consultancy service regarding testing and health monitoring of power equipment.
- Arrangement of technical workshop, seminars, faculty development program, and hands on training in area of dielectric engineering and electrical insulation.
- Application for external funding showing lab facilitates.
