At the inauguration of the Naresh C. Jain School of Decision Sciences, the audience didn’t just hear a speech—they witnessed a life story shaped by gratitude, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to giving back.
The donor, Naresh C. Jain, shared a deeply personal journey—one that reflects the transformative power of education and the enduring bond between an individual and their alma mater, IIT BHU Foundation.
A Beginning Rooted in Humility
Naresh Jain’s story begins in a modest middle-class household.
With a family income that could barely support basic needs, higher education seemed like a distant dream. Yet, thanks to institutional support and scholarships, he was able to pursue his studies at IIT BHU—an opportunity that would change the trajectory of his life.
As he reflected during his speech:
Education was not just a privilege—it was a gift from society.
That belief became the foundation of everything that followed.
More Than an Institution: A Brotherhood for Life
Beyond academics, what stayed with him most was the community.
Living, studying, and growing together with his peers created bonds that lasted decades. The friendships formed in those hostel corridors and classrooms became a lifelong support system—something he believes students may not fully realize in the moment.
IITs, as he described, are not just institutions of excellence—they are ecosystems that shape character, relationships, and values.
Success, Gratitude, and a Sense of Responsibility
From not being the “smartest in class” to becoming an Executive Vice President in a Fortune 500 company, his journey is a testament to perseverance and vision.
But what stands out even more is his perspective on success:
Success is not just about personal achievement—it comes with a responsibility to give back.
For him, giving back was never optional—it was a debt to society.
The First Step: One Scholarship at a Time
His reconnection with IIT BHU began in 2011 . What started as a plan to support a few students soon turned into a sustained commitment. Personally interviewing students and funding scholarships—sometimes through multiple Western Union transfers due to limitations—he ensured that deserving students received support.
By 2014, he was supporting 24 students.
This wasn’t institutional giving. It was personal. Intentional. Relentless.
From Scholarships to Legacy: Building an Institution
The idea for the School of Decision Sciences emerged later, during discussions with institute leadership.
What inspired him wasn’t just infrastructure—it was the vision:
- To train future leaders in decision-making
- To build professionals grounded in integrity and values
- To contribute meaningfully to society’s progress
This aligned perfectly with his own journey—where decisions, values, and opportunities shaped everything.
And so, a larger dream took form.
Why Giving Back Matters
Naresh Jain’s story is not just about one donor—it’s about a mindset.
A mindset that asks:
What did I receive from society?
And how can I multiply that impact for others?
His life answers that question with action.
A Message to Future Donors
The creation of the Naresh C. Jain School of Decision Sciences is more than a milestone—it is an invitation.
An invitation to every alumnus, every well-wisher, and every individual who believes in the power of education:
You don’t have to start big.
You just have to start.
One scholarship.
One initiative.
One contribution.
That’s how change begins.
The Legacy Continues
As Naresh Jain’s journey shows, giving back is not about wealth—it’s about gratitude.
And when gratitude meets action, it builds institutions, transforms lives, and creates a legacy that lasts far beyond a lifetime.
Be a part of this journey.
Support the future.
Give back.
