IIT (BHU) Foundation Welcomes New Endowment for Faculty Excellence in Metallurgy, Material Science and Engineering
The IIT (BHU) Foundation is honored to announce a transformative gift from Dr. Hiralal Fotedar (Metallurgical Engineering, Class of 1966) – a distinguished alumni whose illustrious career spans over five decades in academia, engineering, corporate leadership, public service, and philanthropy. Dr. Fotedar and his wife, Patricia, have pledged $240,000 to establish the:
“Dr. Hiralal and Patricia Fotedar Endowed Chair in Metallurgy, Materials Science and Engineering” at IIT (BHU).
This endowed faculty position aims to recognize and support exceptional educators and researchers in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering while promoting interdisciplinary research and innovation in materials science. The Chair will not only enhance excellence in teaching and research but also help the Institute attract top-tier faculty and bolster its global academic reputation in the field of materials science and engineering.
A former Vice President at Eaton Corporation, Dr. Fotedar was instrumental in driving operational and business excellence across its global operations. He later founded his own consulting firm and served in various public service roles in Sewa International, co-founded the Indo-American Kashmir Forum and Ohio Award for Excellence (now The Partnership for Excellence) a non-profit organization. He established undergraduate scholarship at IIT (BHU) and endowed graduate fellowship at the University of Washington, where he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. He was a post- doctoral research fellow at the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London where he worked with Professor Peter L. Pratt a leading authority in crystal physics and materials science. Prior to joining Eaton, Dr. Fotedar was Associate Professor at the Instituto de Pesquisas Energia Nuclear (IPEN), University of Sao Paulo, Brazil where he taught graduate courses and led R & D programs in materials for nuclear and automotive industries. Dr. Fotedar is recipient of numerous awards for leadership and service.
We are deeply grateful to Dr. Fotedar for his continued commitment to education, innovation, and giving back to the Institute that helped shape his remarkable journey. His generosity will have a lasting impact on future generations of IIT (BHU) scholars and educators.
