Google Summer of Code

We are elated to bring to you that 23 students from IIT (BHU), Varanasi, have been selected for the Google Summer of Code 2021, and one student has been selected as a GSoC student mentor. The numbers have been rising over the past years with 11 selections in 2020 and 9 selections in 2019. As an alumni supported Foundation, it is always exciting when the students are burnishing the legacy of the Institute.Started in 2005, GSoC is an annual international program in which Google awards stipends to students who successfully complete a free and open-source software coding project during the summer. GSoC provides an opportunity to university students to connect with international open-source communities and experts while gaining exposure to real-world software development and employment opportunities in areas related to their academic pursuits. The fact that students get to write code that the world uses is itself impressive!

Contributing to the colossal feat, our alumni provided mentorship to aspiring students in small groups of 2-5, each headed by an alumnus/alumnae who have been a part of GSoC in the past. It’s a clear indicator that students and alumni can together take IIT (BHU) to greater heights.

This year 1292 students bagged GSoC from over 50,000 registrations and over 6991 applications across 130 countries.

IIT (BHU) Foundation looks forward to more such successful collaborations between students and alumni of the Institute in the future.
