Student Activity Center (SAC) for Sports

IIT (BHU) will be now home to a new Student Activity Center (SAC) for sports benefiting students and faculty of this all-residential campus. This development was made possible by a generous gift of $1.3 Million from our alumnus Mr. Ramesh Srinivasan (Metallurgy,  1982). It has created a landmark history as the largest ever single gift to IIT (BHU)  signifying a new chapter in alumni support for the alma mater. The extraordinary gift will be transformative for IIT (BHU), while also enabling us to improve the student experience at the Institute and reimagining a central part of our campus. The Student Activity Center will consist of three floors. The floors contain  badminton halls, squash courts,  taekwondo and boxing rings, and many more activities to cater to sports enthusiasts.

In making the gift, Ramesh noted with affection his memories of his student days at the Institute and the significance of having the opportunities that the Institute offered.  Ramesh Srinivasan commented, “I am deeply grateful for everything IIT (BHU) has done for me including this terrific opportunity to give back.”

Student Activity Center gels in with Ramesh’s jovial nature, as he has represented the Institute in numerous cricket and debate tournaments between 1977 and 1982. He also  won the carrom championship during one of those years, was in the Cultural Committee when the Kashi Yatra cultural festival was launched for the first time, and was awarded the Gandhi Jubilee Best Graduating Student Medal by the Metallurgical Engineering Department in 1982.

Addressing that the Institute has played a pivotal role in his all round development; he added “Across academics, sports, cultural activities, debating and everything else, the Institute taught me many valuable lessons which have stayed with me all my life. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been given this chance to contribute to the upcoming Students Activity Center which should benefit everyone at the campus I have fond memories of.”

Ramesh Srinivasan is a serial CEO and currently serves as the President and CEO of Agilysys Inc. (Nasdaq: AGYS).  He has escalated every company under his leadership to unimaginably greater heights in terms of market capitalization.

After graduating from IIT (BHU) (Metallurgical Engineering) in 1982, Ramesh Srinivasan completed his MBA (PGDM) from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B) in 1984. Ramesh has also attended the 2-month Advanced Management Program (AMP) at the Harvard Business School (HBS) in 2010.

The gift is a singular moment in the history of this great Institute. Afterall, BHU was itself funded by generous donations raised by Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya. We express a heartfelt gratitude to our alumni community, who have constantly supported the Institute in that spirit and have made IIT (BHU) what it is today.

IIT (BHU) Foundation along with IIT (BHU) once again thanks Mr. Ramesh Srinivasan for his profound commitment and kind gift to the Institute. Ramesh’s exemplary love and devotion for his alma mater, paves a path for coming generations to follow.
